April 02 6lbs Six LBS OK Did you see 6LBS!!! - Mary JoI am not even waiting for Bobby to weigh in... I lost 6 LBS!!! I only have 5 more to catch my sister! And Oh Yeah..I am feeling good..might go put one of those pants on that don't have a W on the tag!!! OK time for the happy dance..
HAPPY DANCE TIME!!...
March 30 We Did It - 8K 5 Miles...Ok we are into it now... We did a 5 K yesterday with some serious runners. They were thin and legs up to well you know, they are the people not on this blog! Anyway, we were really considering not going, whimping out, sleeping in. And then Saturday morning, sprang out of bed, put the running clothes on and took off! When we got there I got real nervous, I knew I would be bringing up the rear, but I swallowed deeply and then the gun went off and I was in the port a john... Ouch oops run to the starting line and good ole Bobby waited on me we took off, after about 2 minutes I told Bobby to go on and run....I kept up with a group of young girls for about 2 miles...then me and 1 other kept plugging along... I would run some, the she would pass me. At each mile they had someone telling you how you were doing. Mile 1 didn't hear, Mile 2 did he say 20 something, Mile 3 I heard 33 minutes. Can't be right...and then Mile 4, 51 minutes, oh my kick it Mary Jo, you are behind. Me and my friend are kicking, passing each other trying not to be the last place. Then I see Bobby, coming back to help me at the end. I pick up the pace try to catch my friend but to no avail, youth wins, she was 18, I am 48! But that is OK. I finished 5 miles in 1:03:15. That is 1 hour, 3 minutes and 15 seconds... That is 12:44 pace!!! Ok this might not mean anything to non runners but for a 48 year old that has carried and anchor for years it was incredible!
And of course I can't go without saying how great Bobby did! He finished in 50:06 with a pace of 10:05. This is fantastic. For two who just started training this has been a great experience. We don't have another race planned yet but I think we will be looking for one in April or May somewhere. March 29 Intentionally LivingBobby and I are doing a 5 miler tomorrow! I have a pulled hamstring and he has a slight bug but by golly we are going to do it! Tonight they had a pre-race dinner and we went and one of my favorite people I have ever worked with spoke and I thought about all of us. Dr. Joan Perry is 50 years old has 5 boys and runs triathlons. But that is not why I think so much of her. She really practices what she preaches: Intentionally living, mentally, physically and spiritually. Tonight she spoke of the 3 D's of that practice: Dag gum it - Decide to do something Determine your goal and go for it and Do It! She spoke of a young patient with bone cancer that taught her that during her residency at UNC. You see I was a nurse in the ED when she did her residency and I remembered her then. Fast Forward 15 years and we past each other in the hallway of the hospital where I work and we looked at each other and said "I remember you". That was 15 years ago and still today she inspires me to do my best. She live intentionally and now I can say I do too! Isn't that what it is all about. Live intentionally. Make good choices. Oh well, I am ready now to go do my 5! March 24 The Weekend The Race The Fun - Mary JoWell we did it, we pulled off the race and it was a blast! The weekend was so busy I didn't even have time to post the pictures. I have them now and wanted all to see that the 1st Snow Hill Rotary Run for the Health of it was a fantastic time for all...including nervous Nelly ....me! Here are the pics have a great week!
March 21 Funny Story - Mary JoYesterday I was in a big hurry to get to work, went upstairs, got an older pair of pants off the rack and ran out the door (they didn't need ironing). When I got to work I had a breakfast to attend and ran straight to it. What I did notice was my pants were falling off. I couldn't hold them up and they didn't have belt loops. But when I got to the breakfast someone I haven't seen in a while yelled across the room...Girlfriend your drawers (southern for pants) are falling off what in the world are you doing??? I cracked up. I immediately went to find my trusty safety pin and last night I retired size 16~~. I can't wear them anymore! Have a great weekend!March 19 I am a Nervous Wreck - Mary JoI have been reading how a lot of you are running in races, that is fantastic. My sister got me involved a couple of years ago and I have been doing it ever since. But now I have really gone and did the big one. I am directing, in charge of, coordinating a RACE this weekend! I am a member of Rotary and last year I really wanted to promote Rotary and Health in my hometown. So I thought what the heck, let's have a race...call it Rotary, Run for The Health of It. Do you know how much work goes into those things. I have T-shirts, Sponsors, Water, Fire Department helping... OMG...but I don't have but about 30 runners signed up. Dang it, it is like having a big birthday party and no one shows... The members of Rotary are going to be so upset if this doesn't turn out. OK I just need my friends to send the love my way... so that my first ever Rotary, Run for the Health of It.. won't flop. Later friends.. March 17 There is No Place Like Home - Mary JoWe are home had a great time, Bobby and I ran/walked/hiked in the moutains for about 1.5 hours...fun and hard for this flatlander. OK had great food, friends and with Bobby it couldn't have been better. Well maybe...my team lost..Congrats Terry..I am not talking about Basketball anymore...nor am I going to talk about the weekend and food. I am moving forward. March 14 We are Heading to the Mountains - Mary JoThis weekend will be a mountain top experience...well maybe not but it will be Basketball, (we are in ACC country) Relaxation, and Food. Yes there will be more food than we can eat in a month in a cabin on a mountain top! My goal is control and not to get to mad at Bobby! We will workout, going to take a run in them there hills tomorrow. Ya'll have a great weekend and we will let you know how we did on Sunday when we get home! March 13 Look Out Betty Sue Here Comes Bobby - Mary JoOk know it is not nice to laugh at your partner, but sometimes it is funny. I had a church function the other night and couldn't go to workout. When I got home, Bobby and his buddy (our cat Tux) were in the chair chilling. Then I noticed his leg. I screamed what happened! Well he was on the treadmill on cool down, missing me I am sure, and there was a lot of people and activity that night. He was talking to a young woman who has a young son who was bored and fidgety trying to help them and BOOM, one foot stepped off the moving treadmill and the other didn't. He went flying back and got treadmill burn on one leg. OK OK I know not nice to laugh at your spouse when injured but I can't help it... First thing I asked...did you jump up like Betty Sue?!? Of course he did. Here is the picture. What do you think?OUCH! March 11 What a Difference 10 Weeks Can Make - Mary JoAs I sit here writing I am just like most of us, I am amazed what can happen when you make your mind up to do something and stick to it! We exercised, counted calories and got rest! We kept going back to the basics. Bobby and I didn't have a stellar weight loss this week but we were expecting to plateau at any moment. That doesn't take away from what we have accomplished! The proof is in the pudding...actually the pudding is going going gone! Here are today's Pics and we have nothing but to be proud of our accomplishments: It feels so good to be losing this weight but it even feels better to be losing with all our new friends. This has been an opportunity that we are so thankful for. Could we have done it without all of you? Probably not. Your support and friendship has meant that much to us. And to let everyone know, we are not through! Our goals are being set, I have 15 more to lose and Bobby has 13. We will continue our journey with this blog and community. And post our success! Here are our stats for the 10 weeks: I don't think we could be happier with our success. So here is to all of you guys success!! |
